Amelia completed her B.S. in Biology from Wofford College in 2015 before pursuing her Pharm.D./Ph.D. at the Medical University of South Carolina. During her Pharm.D. training, Amelia conducted research in the areas of neuropharmacology and clinical pharmacokinetics. In 2020, Amelia transitioned to her Ph.D. training in the Department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences under the guidance of Dr. Patrick Woster. Throughout her Ph.D., Amelia focused on the identification, synthesis, and characterization of a series of novel enzyme inhibitors for the treatment of acute neuronal injury and neurodegenerative diseases. After completing her Ph.D. program in 2024, Amelia joined the Frankowski Lab at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a postdoctoral researcher, where she is currently synthesizing small-molecule allosteric modulators of dopamine receptors, with potential therapeutic applications in Parkinson’s disease and schizophrenia.
